It seemed to me to be just like a romantic thriller or horror movie that was marketed in this way because it wants to subvert a thing.
I’m a hopeless romantic.
It typically strikes some Japanese tourists who come to the French capital full of excitement and romantic expectations but are then confronted with filth and arrogance.
And the book gets a really dishy and really dramatic while sort of holding on to McEwan's deeper and more romantic and more soulful concerns about what have we done with the planet.
It it really does call the whole enterprise into question in a way that again I thought was brave but also made me think maybe it's not a romantic comedy.
